Cemeteries serve as public records, documenting community history through the lives and stories of those buried there. They offer insights into migration and societal changes; they act as evidence. As repositories of local history and culture, with each gravestone telling a unique story about the individual buried there and the community they were part of, burial places offer us insights into the social fabric and demographic trends of a particular area when we take a walk through them.
They are not just mere resting places for the departed. This book is a (visual) walk through Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, RI 02906.
